How easy is it to install GitNotifier?

Accepted Answer

It takes 3 steps: 1) Create a GitNotifier account, 2) Install the GitHub App (To let GitNotifier receive webhooks), and 3) Install the Slack App (to let GitNotifier end messages.). And that's all. Then any Slack user can use /gitnotifier connect or open the Slack app page @GitNotifier from slack and connect in 1 click.

What data does GitNotifier store and for how long?

We only store the minimum data needed for notifications: user mappings (Github <> Slack), repository connections, and webhook configurations. We do not retain or log your pull requests content, comments, or message history. Contact us if you need an explicit NDA document.

How secure are the GitHub and Slack integrations?

Accepted Answer

All integrations use OAuth 2.0 with minimal required permissions. App tokens are encrypted at rest and in-transit. Github integration is using Github App with only the scopes you allow on the repos you select (recommended best practices from GitHub). Webhook payloads are encrypted in transit & signed. Whenever the provider provides specific implementation guidelines to provide extra-security, we follow them (PKCE, nonce in oauth exchange state, encrypted DB, etc). Of course, we also do regular audits and follow a zero-trust architecture. On top, our packages are regularly updated to stay secure.

Can I filter out bot notifications (like Dependabot, Wiz, Cursor, Vercel, etc.)?

Yes. You can mute noisy notifications at multiple levels: mute all notifications for a team, mute a specific pull request, or mute notifications coming from a specific user (for example Dependabot automated PRs). This keeps important human review signals visible while bot noise stays out of your way.

Does GitNotifier work with SAML SSO and GitHub Enterprise Cloud?

Yes! GitNotifier fully supports organizations using SAML SSO and GitHub Enterprise Cloud. If a team member cannot see their organization's repositories after authorizing GitNotifier, they simply need to start an active SAML session for their organization and then re-authorize the app. This is standard behavior for all GitHub Apps with SAML-protected organizations.
